HOMECOMING

As the Sophomore Class President, the most significant task is planning and organizing the Homecoming Dance. Along with my fellow three class officers, we were in charge of getting everything done for the event. It was an intimidating challenge, but one that had intrigued me to apply for President in the first place.

The first major decision to be made was the theme. We did not want to be basic or repetitive, but we loved the idea of a twilight/evening vibe. So using my art background I proposed the idea of the theme being "Starry Night." Everyone loved it so we went all in with it. I created some banners and advertisements using Van Gogh's painting and we truly got a sense of what this dance could be.

Outside of graphics, we were also in charge of setting prices and budgeting. Now as a Sophomore, I did not really have a fantastic sense of money, but after a lot of work with my treasurer we understood the task at hand. From there I was in charge of finding affordable decorations, food and drinks, a DJ, and a photobooth. We set our ticket price and now it was a matter of marketing and executing. Planning the Homecoming Dance made me fall in love with event planning and I could not wait for planning Prom next year. I did not know it then, but this was the origin for my passion for hospitality.
